
Welcome to Grade 8 English!
In this course, students will develop the confidence and skills to use English in meaningful, real-world contexts. The curriculum focuses on building core competencies across six key areas:
🎧 Listening & Viewing
Students will listen to discussions and presentations on a variety of general-interest topics. They will identify main ideas, make inferences, understand specific information, and take organized notes effectively.
🗣️ Speaking & Presenting
Students will engage in conversations, share experiences, and express ideas and opinions in both formal and informal settings. They will practice clear communication using proper sentence structure and verb tenses.
đź“– Reading & Viewing
Students will read a wide range of texts—print and digital—including narratives, charts, maps, and graphs. They will analyze structure, identify purpose, evaluate information, and begin to interpret implicit meaning.
✍️ Writing & Presenting
Students will plan, draft, and present well-structured paragraphs using varied sentence types and vocabulary. They will express ideas clearly using past, present, and future tenses, link ideas with conjunctions, and develop skills in reflection, argument, and synthesis.
⚙️ Grammar Focus
Grammar instruction includes sentence types, questions (WH and Yes/No), countable/uncountable nouns, modals (can/can’t), adjectives, conjunctions, and tenses (present simple, present continuous, and future).
đź’¬ Vocabulary Development
Students will learn to use context clues to determine word meanings, apply new vocabulary in discussions, and select words appropriately for various communicative purposes.
