Welcome to Grade 12 English  – Semester 1.

This course develops students' advanced English language skills through the exploration of authentic literary, informational, and research-based texts. Throughout the semester, students will strengthen their critical reading, analytical thinking, academic writing, speaking, and listening skills while engaging with contemporary global issues.

Students will examine how language shapes culture and identity, explore the relationship between resources and development, evaluate scientific and ethical issues surrounding longevity, and investigate the concepts of truth, deception, and research reliability. They will learn to analyze texts critically, evaluate evidence, conduct responsible academic research, and communicate ideas effectively through discussions, presentations, essays, and research writing.

Throughout the course, students will continue to build their academic vocabulary and improve their use of grammar, including participles, gerunds, infinitives, reporting verbs, and formal academic language. They will also develop essential research skills such as paraphrasing, quoting, summarizing, citing sources, and synthesizing information from multiple texts.

By the end of Semester 1, students will be able to read complex texts with confidence, evaluate multiple perspectives, write coherent evidence-based arguments, summarize research objectively, and communicate effectively using accurate and sophisticated academic English. These skills will prepare them for further academic study and future professional communication.
